Jacqueline Never of the Strategist wrote that her Rosacea was calmed by using Unscented Goat’s Milk Soap by Serenity Acres Farm. While rosacea is a complicated disorder with no clear cause, I believe there is merit to her story. In addition to laying off spicy foods, controlling stress levels, and treating your skin gently, cleansing with unscented non-drying cleansers can prevent flareups.

This is likely because of the inherent antimicrobial properties present in goats milk. According to a 2016 study published in the Journal of Biological Research and Applied Sciences conducted by the Department of Microbiology at Jinnah University for Women in Karachi, Pakistan, titled “Antimicrobial Pattern Associated With Handmade Goat Milk Soap,”

“Goat milk is effective for treating acne and skin infections it has antimicrobial properties that delays growth of pathogenic organisms, it contains variety of nutrients and vitamins such as Vitamin D, C, B1, B12and E. Fourteen test organism those were isolated from clinical specimen were used in this study. Goat milk soap was tested against pathogenic organism include Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, Klebsiella pneumonia, Salmonella typhi, Shiegella dysentry, Micrococcus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Proteus vulgaris, Enterococcus, Micrococcus luteus, Streptococcus. (Kirby_Bauer Test) method was used to detect antimicrobial activity of goat milk soap. Complete inhibition of growth of S.aureus, B.subtilis, C.albicans, Micrococcus, Enterococcus, S.epidermidis was reported.”

This is important because it indicates that goat’s milk soap is a potent tool in combating bacteria that is commonly found in our everyday lives. The discussion from the doctors who wrote this paper indicated that using an antimicrobial soap such as goat’s milk is preferable over commercially available soaps that are loaded with chemicals which have been found to cause cancer or other disruptive disorders.

Rosacea (roe-ZAY-she-uh) is a common skin condition characterized by a red flushed appearance due to dilated blood vessels in the face. In some cases there are also acneic-like pus-filled bumps. Often times the rosacea condition flares when the skin’s acid mantle is disrupted such as using an overly drying cleansing routine. Goat’s milk soap is naturally moisturizing as it is highly fatted. The fats act like a moisturizer and help reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

The moisturizing effects of goat’s milk soap may also benefit skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. These two conditions can cause great discomfort as the skin has trouble maintaining the skin barrier, losing transepidermal water as well as allowing irritants past the epidermal layers.

We at Earthly Beauty love the Serenity Acres soaps as well as the body lotions and scrubs!
